Eaton Wedding and Flower Festival

The Wedding and Flower Festival at Christ Church, Eaton and the Church and Community Hall was held the weekend of 15th June 2018 to raise funds for the Church and refurbishment of the Hall.

A concert was held on the Friday evening which was a sell-out and had the most delightful selection of songs from musicals and operas with the theme ‘Love and Marriage’.  The singers were Juliet Montgomery and Andrew Brown with the accompanist Tim Kennedy.  The evening was much enjoyed by all, the weather held and drinks and canapés were served outside in the churchyard. The evening was sponsored by Higher Mutlow Music Trust and Tarmac.

The weekend continued with floral displays in the church, which were much admired and made the church look beautiful indeed.  The windows were sponsored by local firms and families from Eaton Village namely : The Bonners, Dines ,Farralls, Howells, Johnsons, Reutters, Stoniers and Eaton W.I.  Marton School, Year 1 decorated the font with a display of school mottos and Clonter Opera Music Trust had a window display celebrating music.  The local firms who also kindly took a window were Timothy Brown Estate Agency, Halo Hairdressing and Sandhole Oak Barn. Many visitors enjoyed the beautiful floral arrangements, which also had the theme of ‘ Marriage and Flowers’.

Delicious refreshments were served in the Church and Community Hall,  all weekend,  by a great team of  helpers who worked tirelessly throughout the festival!

Demonstrations of lace-making, silk spinning and pottery took place in the hall alongside the most interesting “Time-Line” and record of every wedding that has taken place in Eaton Church since 1858.  This great achievement was put together by John Dines and will be treasured by Eaton Church.

Many past brides of Eaton Church had their wedding dresses on display, either in the church or hall.  It was a remarkable display with old photographs and photo albums for people to look at and recall happy memories of their special day at Christ Church, Eaton.

The weekend ended with Evensong arranged by Revd. Ian Arch with a visit from the Nave Choir of Chester Cathedral.  It was a wonderful experience hearing such exceptional singing in Christ Church Eaton.

Two readings were read by past brides, Helen Boxford and Lynn Oakes, and refreshments were served by the PCC. A wonderful finale to a very special weekend.  Even the neighbouring chickens and ducks enjoyed it, they had the left-over cake and sandwiches and kindly sent a donation to funds raised!
